Brush up on your Bolero – because Britain’s brightest skating talents will return to iceSheffield for the 2016 British Figure Skating Championships at the end of the month.
Hundreds of figure skaters will be heading to Sheffield from 29 November to 4 December, with Britain’s best all skating to be crowned champion in their respective categories.
The competition, which covers all age groups and abilities from novice to senior, includes solo, pairs, ice dance and synchro skating.
Figure skating legend and National Ice Skating Association High Performance Manager Robin Cousins said: “The British Figure Skating Championships are wonderful opportunity to see Britain’s best skaters, upcoming talent and potentially, Olympic athletes of tomorrow.
“They are a fantastic way to celebrate all the hard work our skaters put in throughout the year, so come down and show as much support as possible.”
Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “I look forward to welcoming Britain’s figure skating elite to compete in Sheffield, plus all the visiting spectators.
“Attracting a major sporting event like this only strengthens our reputation as a city of sport, which is made possible because we have top class facilities available here.
“This will be a great event for all the family and I hope people will make the most of this opportunity to watch our British champions in action, and that many more are inspired to take to the ice.”
Also skating at the competition will be skaters from the hit CBBC show, Ice Stars. Last year figure skater Josh Brown, a skater on the show, won the Junior Men’s category. The Championships are a great way for kids to see their heroes from the TV.
Tickets for the event are available from the SIV website at http://sivtickets.com/event/britishfigureskating2016. Prices vary from £1 to £11.
