Get moor from your market this Christmas

23 November 2015

Turkey, sprouts and festive ales will be on most people’s Christmas shopping lists this year.

And with around 80 independent traders selling a huge range of meat, fish, vegetables, beverages and fresh produce, the Moor Market is the place to buy all the ingredients for the festive season.

With the food shopping taken care of, the market is also the place to go for great-value quirky and unique gifts and crafts, as well as a huge range of wrapping paper, cards and accessories.

The market will be opening from 8am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday, in the run-up to Christmas, as well as on two Sundays to give shoppers even more chance to pop in and get the things they need.

And on Sunday 20 December, the Moor Market will open from 10.30am to 4.30pm – ideal for those last-minute gifts or for festive food supplies.

Younger customers, meanwhile, can enjoy a full programme of free Christmas activities which will take place at the market from the end of November.

On Saturday, 28 November the market will host Barney’s Christmas Puppet Show between 1pm and 3pm and, the following Saturday, 5 December, there will be Christmas-themed storytelling running at the same time.

Magical visitors from the North Mountain – in the form of “Frozen” characters Olaf and Anna – will come to the Moor Market between 12noon and 2pm on Saturday, 12 December.

Face-painting sessions will run from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, 19 December and, on Monday 21 December there will be balloon-modelling with Santa and his snowman at the same times.

Olaf, Anna and Elsa will also be back in the market between 12noon and 2pm on Monday, 21 December, to meet and greet younger shoppers

But it’s not all for the children. Christmas chefs may learn a thing or two during the Hallam FM cook-off, set to be held at the market’s demo kitchen from 11am to 12noon on Saturday 12 December.

With something for all the family this Christmas, the Moor Market is the place to be for fresh food, original gifts and all the seasonal essentials – from independent local traders.

Over the Christmas period, the market will close at 4pm on Thursday 24 December and remain closed on 25, 26 and 27 December. It will open from 9am to 5pm on Monday 28 December.

At New Year, the Moor Market will close at 4pm on Thursday 31 December, close on Friday 1 January, and open as normal on Saturday 2 January.
