Next steps for old Tinsley Infants School site

26 April 2017

Plans to create a new community space at the old Tinsley Infants School are progressing, with people invited to an open day this Saturday, 29 April.

The former school, on Siemens Close, shut in 2016 when children were transferred to the Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy.

The building has remained empty since then but now Sheffield City Council, working with the Tinsley Forum and Studio Polpo, a social enterprise specialising in bringing empty buildings back into community use, have agreed an 18-month project. The aim is to create a self-funded facility that is used and run by local people and groups to boost the local community.

The open day is this Saturday, 29 April, from 10am to 5pm. Everyone is invited.

Dawn Shaw, Head of Libraries and Community Services at Sheffield City Council, said: “We are looking to turn the former school site into a well-used building which benefits the community, and can be taken-on and run by local people.”
