Outdoors Future Camp comes to The Outdoor City

01 August 2017

This September The Outdoor City will be hosting the UK’s first ever conference and networking event designed to inform, inspire, challenge and unite the future leaders of the outdoor recreation industries. The Outdoors Future Camp will be held at Ecclesall Woods Discovery Centre on 5-6 September 2017 and early bird places are available to book now.

In addition to its market insight sessions, inspirational speakers and topical workshops, the Outdoors Future Camp has an overnight camp-out element and a series of activities including trail-running, bouldering and mountain biking; inspired by Sheffield’s remarkable routes, tracks and trails and all within easy access of the conference hub.

A joint initiative by the Outdoor Industry Association and ISPO ACADEMY, Outdoors Future Camp is a brand new type of event aimed at younger up-and-coming outdoor professionals, with a focus on developing, inspiring and connecting future leaders.

Sheffield stepped up its profile and highlighted its outdoor credentials with an outdoor economic report in 2015 when it launched as The Outdoor City; the UK’s leading destination for city culture, outdoor adventure and rural escapes. Since then the city has enjoyed a close working relationship with the Outdoor Industry Association and has welcomed this new conference to Sheffield.

Councillor Mazher Iqbal, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Business & Investment, said: “We are delighted that Outdoors Future Camp will be held in Sheffield. We have a great reputation for hosting business events and conferences thanks to the work of Conference Sheffield and the exceptional venues and hoteliers that operate in the city.  Our status as The Outdoor City makes this particular event even more fitting and gives us the opportunity to showcase some of the more alternative venues, settings and experiences that Sheffield has to offer.”

Unlike other events in the outdoor trade calendar, this has been specifically created to reach the important next generation and future leaders of the outdoor industry; bringing together their enthusiasm, vibrancy and dynamism to celebrate and encourage them to progress their careers in the outdoors. The overnight camp-out, outdoor feasts and musical entertainment have been designed to emulate a festival and provide that much needed space for the future leaders of the outdoor industry to relax and talk to each other after a full day of speakers and workshops.

CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association, Andrew Denton, said: “Not only will the Outdoors Future Camp offer delegates an inspiring programme, it will present a platform for them to be listened to and give insight into how the UK outdoor industry will develop with them in charge; it’s a great opportunity for all outdoor companies to invest in the future of the industry!”

Delegates to Outdoors Future Camp include store managers and deputies, regional retail managers, brand marketing, sales and product managers, representatives, agents and distributor staff, plus activity centre and hostel staff and instructors and any new prospects wanting to develop a career in the outdoor industries.

Keynote speakers have just been announced and include Matthias Gebhard of leading online retailer Bergfreunde, Colin Bradshaw – Chief Compliance Officer at data company TwentyCi,  Pau Molinas – Chief Operating Officer and Partner of Exipple Studio in Spain and Caroline White –  Former CEO of the Youth Hotel Association (YHA) and OIA board member.
