Sheffield to put forward Channel 4 bid after meeting with broadcaster

Sheffield will be responding to Channel 4’s call for proposals to be based in the heart of the city after the broadcaster launched its relocation timetable today.

City bosses say they are confident that Sheffield meets all the criteria set by Channel 4 for both its new national headquarters and two new regional creative hubs at the All 4 The UK meeting held in London today.

They will now prepare Sheffield’s bid  before the deadline of 11 May. Further presentations will be held in June.

The new national headquarters must be based in a city with a working population of more than 200,000, travel time to London of less than three hours and a high-level of physical and digital connectivity and infrastructure.

Its creative hubs must be based in a city with a working population of 75,000, a four-hour journey time to the capital and links to a well-developed independent television or digital production community.

Richard Caborn, leading Sheffield’s bid, said: “We are extremely encouraged by these proposals and feel confident that Sheffield can meet the criteria set by Channel 4 today.
